Sri Lanka is fast becoming a major spot for watching Whales and Dolphins.
Located down South, Dondra Point is the main port of Whale Watching in the country, especially during the season from months of December to April. Out of these months December, January and April are the peak months of sightings, as it is during these months that there is 95% chances of spotting Sperm Whales and great chances of spotting Blue Whales, given that their migration path is just off Dondra Point.
Just off the North West coast, Kalpitiya is probably the best place to visit if you are interested in seeing Dolphins, especially Spinner Dolphins and other aquatic marine life like Dugongs, Stingrays and the endagered marine turtles. Boat excursions into the deep seas are possible only from December to April, when the seas are calm along the south and west coasts
